Q: Am I qualified to become a Kumon Instructor?
A: If you enjoy working with children and have some prior business experience, that is a very good start. A background in teaching and a university degree are helpful. The single most important factor is your interest in and commitment to helping children in your community.

Q: Can I operate a Kumon centre on a part-time basis?
A: No. Every Kumon instructor is required to be a full-time operator. We believe that the children in your centre should be given undivided commitment in receiving the best learning opportunity to experience the Kumon Method.

Q: Can I just invest to open a Kumon centre and have someone else to run the centre?
A: No. We request each Kumon franchisee to be there physically and attend to the needs of our students at all times. Our children do well with the guidance and close supervision from the instructors.

Q: What are the trainings I will receive prior to the centre opening?
A: Once a prospective candidate is approved to participate in Kumon's initial training programme, he or she will be trained based on our curriculum and learning method, as well as business strategies for owning and operating a Kumon centre.

Q: What kind of support do I receive from the franchisor?
A: Our staff play an active role in supporting franchisees in both the administering of programmes offered and centre growth and development. Regular trainings, meetings and seminars are provided for Kumon Instructors.

Q: Do I have to pay for the seminars and trainings?
A: No. You do not have to pay for the seminars and trainings. However, we appreciate that you participate actively in these sessions.

Q: How do you decide the number of centres in an area?
A: We will decide the number of centres based on the population density of each area. The details will be provided and discussed in the trainings for selected candidates.

Q: Is distance one of the determining factors in setting up a Kumon centre in an area?
A: No. A Kumon centre set-up is created in such a way that distance is not the determining factor. We do ensure that there is sufficient potential for Kumon, based on the population density, before placing a new centre.

Q: How much do I need to invest in setting up a Kumon centre?
A: It all depends on where you plan to set up your centre. Basically, a start-up capital of
RM40,000 is needed; depending on the total cost of renovation, rent deposit, furniture and fitting, etc. |
